VOYEUR [V] NOCTURNE | TRUNK Gallery Press Release

Amyn Nasser's Voyeur Nocturne is a photographic celebration of Vancouverbetter known as the “City of Glass”, where the Winter Olympic Games are being held. With its high population density relative to most other North American cities, urban planning in Vancouver is characterized by high-rise residential and mixed-use development in the city centre as an alternative to sprawl. Glass condominium towers dominate the skyline and have been credited in contributing to the city’s high rankings in livability. Amyn Nasser has effectively captured this ‘feel’ unique to and defining of Vancouver where each layer symbolizes the excitement and vibrancy of inner city life. If windows are the eyes to the soul, can the same be said for the soul of a city?

The Voyeur Nocturne series resulted from a 10 month long project taking the photographer to different viewpoints across the city; many of the most spectacular shots are a product of careful planning and consideration. Reflections present both opportunity and challenge; windows aglow invite the viewer in. As evening comes and the lights go on, a routine scene quickly becomes something with character and mood. Voyeur Nocturne will close Monday, March 15, 2010.

Amyn Nasser’s accreditations and accolades extend internationally. From Paris to New York to Dubai, Nasser has been an established international fashion and celebrity photographer for over 25 years with editorials in Vogue, Vogue Homme, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Elle. The Voyeur Nocturne series was the only photography chosen to officially hang at the Olympic Village as chosen by Art Consultant, Miriam Aroeste. It was also accredited with an Honorable Mention at the LUCIE Pilsner Urquell International Photography Awards. In addition, Amyn was accredited by the Photography Master Cup -International Color Awards for both his nude and portrait work.

Selena in the Cowgirl hat - photographed in Vegas on a sunny bright day. Mixed lighting with the backlight coming through as she moves quickly, what a gorgeous smile and beautiful eyes. With the Metz 76 MZ 5 high power flash that has a nice even coverage across the full frame and recharges very fast, the balance in light is exceptional with the correct sensor for the Metz. It reads it very quickly by first doing a pre-flash.

Again here, with the fast change in expressions the Metz 76 MZ 5 is SUPERB in configuring the well balanced mix in lighting. The wide coverage means that the image is well lit edge to edge and allows me to focus my attention only on the subjects, their movement and expressions and where I'd like to crop.

Similar to the above images - this image as in the Cowgirl hat above with the mix in lighting. This session had a lot of very fast composition and movement. Nothing was posed and the fire rate was very high. The sequence of movement is what interests me rather than having to focus my attention on gear and gear and gear!

For most of my outdoors work I use a flash but have found that the recycle rate has to be quick. The Metz 76 MZ 5 with the external power packs cuts the recycle time down to almost immediate. Yes, sometimes the flash head fan will come on (actually often in my case as I am rapid firing) and with the Nikon SB 800 I also tend to use a Quantum Turbo Pack.

Gorgeous Lovers! Shot in very little time in Florida where I had them express their feelings for each other - yes! they were a couple! Soft external flash mixed into a shade light situation. I love the softness and sensuality of her lips. They are full and expectantly waiting for that passionate kiss!

All published in Germany, Netherlands, Italy and USA.

Published: Glamour Magazine USA - July 09

From a series of beauty images shot in Naples, Florida. This was done at sunset with flash being the main source light. The warm light makes her legs look beautiful and is great for accentuating the skin tones. Flash used is the Metz 76 MZ 5 system, fully digital system.

MicroStock Diaries

Go Figure! Jack Hollingsworth expense of time into MicroStock with 401 images and a return of USD 179.25 - So why are these photographers munching on Cardboard? Guess common sense is not so common and perhaps we've enslaved ourselves to photography for that little bit of gratification! Photography is now disposable and going forward, it'll take a lot of continuous imagery to get the same audience to buy especially with Web 2.0

THOM HOGAN - What's Wrong at Nikon, 2009 Edition

Interesting Read. As a note: I don't do any testing or trouble shooting for any software or hardware company. I'd rather wait. Further I have never understood photographers rushing to get the lastest software and then having problems, it is like putting a pizza in the oven and going to sleep, then trying to save a piece after it has burned! If photographers waited patiently or with noise, it would compel these software companies to do their own trouble shooting. The word "trouble" is just that! No check in the mail, then I will not upgrade immediately. I'll only go to Mac OS 10.5.xx only now as it is stable, and I will not loose any time with compatibilities.
